a lost battle: a fantasy story
A story about a dead soldier witnessing his lost battle in his memory as his soul refused to leave his body buried in the ice.
Quote:
They say all your dreams can come true, but sometimes they forgot to mention that nightmares are dreams too..."A nightmare:
It's another year, another day and
it's may again. I don't know how
these days move on. But I exist
in the scope of time. Frozen in place
for yet another eternity. My blood runs
cold in my veins and my heart has
stopped beating. My mind is processing
a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions
as a lay there, helpless as those
memories hit play again.
I was again brought back to the graveyard,
which was now nothing but an
ashen mass of ground. I could still
remember those events, where
war horns blew and the horses
raced forward, the battle ground
drenched in blood as those armed men
charged at each other.
The day the sky was grey, and the storm clouds swirled and poured rain on this cursed land to wash away the blood of these sinners.
The sky cracked and thunder raged as the gods above sent angry storms from
the turbulent seas to drown the demons hiding behind the skins of men. I saw them
for what they are, monsters who are
trapped in an endless hunger
quenching their thirst for blood.
I was there that day, when the mighty
kingdoms fell and the enemies seized the lands,
dragging people out of their homes as the blades sliced there necks, the empire was bathed in blood of it subjects as the sky shed tears and the sun hid behind his clouds.
The lands were set on fire and the scent of burning human flesh permeated the air,
the evening hulls sang the mourning
call as the ash forest stood still, even
the fierce beasts prowling its grounds
listened to the silence as the northwind
carried the tale in all eight directions beyond the mammoth mountains and the abysmal oceans.
That day, a new history was was eched on to the rocks, as the blood moon rose above the sky as the stars scattered, the lupine wolves bared their fangs and howled the victory of the demons who paraded the now scorched land. Darkness enveloped the City as the lights thinned out, flickered and faded out of existence.
The monsters emerged from the approaching shadows as they swallowed the desperate cries of the men pleading for salvation.
I could do nothing but watch
as the creatures sinked their claws in the men's rib cages and carved out their hearts and devoured the flesh with their black teeth, screeching in delight as screams tore from their throats and the blood pooled at their feet.
I watched as the monsters shed their skins and revealed their rotting flesh, their slick tongues hissed as their milky eyes scanned the mass of crumbled bodies on the ground.
I stood atop the hanging trees as the buildings were destroyed and the
rivers ran red and a new era of darkness descended on the earth.
The haunting night withdrew
its inked fingers from the sky as
the morning sun climbed the horizon
sending tendrils of light beams to
chase away the terrifying shadows of the night. The demons descended into the
ground leaving the earth a graveyard of flesh and bones. I stood still as the winds whispered and the quiet trees mourned the lives of the dead souls descending to the netherworld. The memory flashed and I blinked, brought back from the day to this frozen cold block of ice.
But I know one thing, the monsters wouldn't just stop there, they'd keep coming untill the earth burns into cinders and the darkness would forever trap the sky, unleashing the deadly beasts of the underworld.
